Where ships dock

Grand Turk Cruise Center pier

Ships dock at the Grand Turk Cruise Center at the south-west end of the island; the beach and shops are right at the pier. Cockburn Town is about 4 km (2½ miles) north by taxi or scooter. Providenciales is a separate island, reached by plane, not from the ship.

Typically about 8 AM – 5 PM · check today's all-aboard in your ship's daily program

All-aboard is in ship time. Check the daily programme and be back at the gangway 30 minutes early.

    Governor's Beach

    27 min walk · Beaches

Grand Turk's best beach, south of town beside the Governor's residence — casuarina shade, calm water, and the famous wall just offshore where the sea floor drops from 10 metres to 2,000.

  2. Gibbs Cay

3 mi / 5 km from the pier — taxi or shuttle · Boat Trips & Fishing

A sandbar cay off Grand Turk where the southern stingrays swim up to you in knee-deep water — the excursion every cruise passenger remembers, and better on a small boat from town.

  3. Cockburn Town

    Cockburn Town

4 mi / 6 km from the pier — taxi or shuttle · Landmarks & Nature

The capital of the country, and a village: Bermudian-style houses with wooden verandas on Front Street, salt-pond ruins, wandering donkeys, and a pace that stopped in about 1950.

  4. Turks and Caicos National Museum

    Turks and Caicos National Museum

4 mi / 6 km from the pier — taxi or shuttle · Museums & Culture

In the 180-year-old Guinep House on Front Street: the Molasses Reef wreck (the oldest European shipwreck excavated in the Americas), Lucayan artefacts, the salt industry, and John Glenn's 1962 splashdown off Grand Turk.

  5. Grand Turk Lighthouse

    Grand Turk Lighthouse

8 mi / 12 km from the pier — taxi or shuttle · Landmarks & Nature

The 1852 cast-iron lighthouse shipped from London to the island's northern tip, above cliffs and a blue-black ocean — whales pass below in winter, and the view runs the length of the island.

Ready-made port days in TurksCaicosThings

Each is a timed plan in the app, starting and ending at the ship (19 in all for this port).

Getting around: what the app tells you

Read the bill before you tip
Almost every restaurant adds a 10–15% service charge and the 12% government tax on top of the menu price, and the card machine will still cheerfully offer a tip line. Look for the 'service' line: if it's there, the staff have been tipped; add a few dollars only for something special. If it isn't, 15–20%.
Snorkel from shore — and never stand on it
You don't need a boat: Bight Reef (Coral Gardens) and Smith's Reef are a short swim from the sand, with marked buoys, and are better than most paid trips. Go before 10 AM for calm water, follow the ropes, and float — a fin on the coral kills it, and a coral cut gets infected. Mineral sunscreen only; the reef is a protected park, and rangers do check.
Rent the car, drive on the left, mind the roundabouts
Two taxi rides cost more than a day's rental, so most visitors drive. Traffic keeps left; the rental will likely be a left-hand-drive car anyway. At roundabouts you go clockwise and yield to traffic already circling from your right — this is where every visitor's near-miss happens. Roads are unlit and potholed off the main highway, so drive by daylight to Blue Hills and the south shore. Police stop for phones and seatbelts; the limit is 40 mph (64 km/h) on Leeward Highway and 20 in Grace Bay.
Do the outer islands right: early ferry, cash, car at the dock
The North Caicos ferry leaves Walkin Marina at Leeward; take the first sailing (around 7:30–8 AM), because the last one back is mid-afternoon and there's no evening boat. Reserve a rental car for pickup at the Sandy Point dock — without one you'll see nothing — and bring cash: no ATMs, and the plantation and cave guides don't take cards. Middle Caicos is over a causeway, 45 minutes further; Mudjin Harbour first, caves at midday, back to the dock with an hour to spare. Grand Turk is a separate day: fly, don't sail.
