Where ships dock
Flåm cruise quay (tenders on multi-ship days)
Two minutes to the Flåm Railway platform and the fjord-cruise pontoon. Book both before you arrive.
Typically 7 AM – 5 PM
All-aboard is in ship time. Check the daily programme and be back at the gangway 30 minutes early.
Top places near the pier
Walking times come from the app: straight-line distance plus 30% for streets, at an easy 4.5 km/h. Places further than an hour on foot show the distance instead.
Rallarvegen by Bike
The navvies' road: take the Flåm Railway up to Myrdal and ride 20 km back down the gravel track alongside it — 21 hairpins at the top, waterfalls, farms, and the fjord at the bottom.

Flåmsbana: 20 km and 864 metres of climb from the fjord to Myrdal on the mountain plateau, through 20 tunnels and past the Kjosfossen waterfall where the train stops for photographs (and a dancing huldra).
Nærøyfjord Cruise
The two-hour boat from Flåm to Gudvangen along the Aurlandsfjord and into the Nærøyfjord — 250 metres wide between 1,700-metre walls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the narrowest fjord anyone sails.

The free museum in the old station building: how the line was blasted and built over twenty years, an original locomotive and the tools of the navvies who did it.
Njord Sea Kayak
Guided kayak trips on the Aurlandsfjord from the beach next to the quay: two hours to a full day, beginners welcome, the cliffs from water level.

A Viking-hall brewery pub with a fire in the middle, dragon carvings and award-winning beers brewed on site — a Viking plank of five tasters with a five-course meal is the thing.
Brekkefossen
The waterfall above the village: a steep 45-minute climb from the Flåm valley road to the foot of the fall, with the whole fjord head laid out below.
Aurland Shoe Factory
The birthplace of the penny loafer: the Aurland moccasin has been made in this valley since the 1930s and copied by everyone since.

A 30-metre timber and steel platform hanging 650 metres above the Aurlandsfjord, on the snow road between Aurland and Lærdal: the fjord straight down, the ship a toy below.

A village of 80 people and 500 goats on the Aurlandsfjord, with Norway's smallest stave church (1147, 40 seats) and the brown goat cheese it's famous for.

Alfred Diem · CC BY 2.0 · Wikimedia Commons Gudvangen & Viking Valley
The village at the head of the Nærøyfjord where the fjord cruise lands, with Njardarheimr, a living Viking town of craftspeople in costume, and buses back to Flåm through the Gudvanga tunnel.
Ready-made port days in NorwayThings
Each is a timed plan in the app, starting and ending at the ship.
- Flåm: Train, Fjord & Vikings
Up the mountain by rail, down the Nærøyfjord by boat, and a Viking beer at the end - Stegastein, Undredal & a Slow Flåm Day
The platform over the fjord, goat's cheese in a tiny village and a long lunch — very little walking - Kayak the Fjord, Climb to Brekkefossen
A two-hour morning paddle on the Aurlandsfjord, then a steep climb beside a waterfall
Getting around: what the app tells you
- Ship time, tender time, and the last boat back
- All-aboard is in ship's time, which is not always local time — check the daily programme. In Geiranger the last tender back runs 30–60 minutes before all-aboard and the queue is longest right then; in Flåm the train and the fjord boat both run late on two-ship days. Be at the gangway 30 minutes early. The ship waits for its own excursions, not for you.
- Book the operators direct, not the ship's desk
- The Flåm Railway, Nærøyfjord boat, Loen Skylift, Fløibanen, Lysefjord and Geiranger cruises all sell online at fixed prices; the ship's excursion desk sells the same seats with a mark-up and a bus you didn't need. Book direct weeks ahead for anything with limited seats, and check the port's arrival time against the departure you pick — with an hour's margin.
- Check the webcam before you pay for the view
- Dalsnibba, the Loen Skylift, Fløyen, Ulriken and Stegastein all have live webcams; the mountain can be in cloud while the pier is sunny. Look before you buy the bus or the lift, and if the top is grey, do the fjord boat or the museum first and go up later — weather in the fjords changes in an hour.
